Weekly Desktop Maintenance: 15-Minute Process for Organization, Cable Management, and Device Placement

Storage systems initially look tidy, but can easily become cluttered with temporary items after a few weeks. Sticking to a short routine is easier to maintain than occasionally undertaking a major clean-up.

Three-minute clear-out of your workspace

Remove cups, packaging, completed documents, and items that don't belong on your desk. Keep only essential input and writing areas clear.

Four-minute return of frequently used tools to their place

Only keep items used weekly on the pegboard; store less frequently used accessories in drawers or other storage areas.

Four-minute cable check

Ensure plugs are fully inserted, cables are not pinched by chair wheels, and there is slack for height adjustments or repositioning.

Four-minute wipe-down and safety check

Clean according to material, and check for loose clamps, screws, adhesives, and brackets.

  • Do not pull on cables to unplug
  • Keep ventilation holes clear
  • Discontinue use of damaged accessories immediately
