A monitor riser shouldn't be chosen based solely on screen size. The width of the riser's surface, the clearance underneath, the depth of your desk, and keyboard placement directly determine how convenient it will be for daily use.
Measure four areas first
Measure the total width of your desk, the width of your monitor base, the devices you need to store under the riser, and the depth required for cables behind your monitor.
- Usable desk width
- Widest part of the monitor base
- Keyboard or Dock depth
54.5 cm: Single monitor on a small desk
A standard length riser makes it easier to leave space on both sides, suitable for one monitor, a laptop, or basic charging setups. Be mindful if a large monitor base might extend beyond the riser's surface.
75 cm: Balance between work and storage
A medium-length riser can accommodate wider bases and allow for frequently used small items to be placed next to them. It's suitable for users who want more storage but don't want to fill their entire desk.
98.5 cm and above: Dual device setup
Long risers are suitable for dual monitors or a laptop plus a monitor, but the load-bearing capacity still needs to be calculated item by item. Also, ensure that desk legs, walls, and power outlets are not obstructed.
- Total weight should not only include monitors
- Balance weight evenly on left and right sides
- Allow space for heat dissipation and cable management
Before ordering, draw the actual dimensions of your monitor base on your desk. This makes it easier to judge the proportions than just looking at product photos.
